HD DVD starts - they can afford Toppusutoriotakuuisshu.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 § 0

At Frye's over the weekend I saw two half shelves worth of HD-DVD software. This is only remarkable because I had not been to an electronics superstore recently to see such a display. I know they've been out for weeks or a month or a I don't care.

The HD-DVDs were grouped at the end of the anime section just before the nature and historical videos. I can't remember the first weeks or months of DVD's launch but it was probably just as pathetic (I remember only seeing Eraser and Twister DVDs for a year before I cared about DVD as a source of entertainment). The discs were packaged in the same clam cases as normal DVDs, the "HD-DVD" banner at the top was the only tip-off. Blockbuster!/must buy! titles included: Rumor Has It, The Chronicles of Riddick, Van Helsing, Swordfish, Doom.

This is all I get after dropping $500 on my new Toshiba HD-A1 HD DVD player? (I ask hypothetically, as I don't have any such player.) Penny Arcade found a use for the Phantom of the Opera HD-DVD.

If I were the King of All Home Entertainment Media (like Mark Cuban or Mickey Mouse), I'd write this memo to all my media minions:

Dear whichever studios are launching HD-DVD: The following titles will force me to adopt your new disc format: Digital Video Essentials (to calibrate before we watch the rest of the launch titles), Star Wars Episodes IV-VI, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Blade Runner, Alien and Aliens, King Kong, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Harry Potter movies, Moulin Rouge, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Princess Mononoke, Serenity (actually this is a launch title! Go Team Whedon), Sin City, Apocalypse Now, E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jaws, Romeo+Juliet, Fight Club, Terminator 2, A Nightmare Before Christmas, Lion King, The Incredibles, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Spider-Man movies, Batman and Batman Begins, X-Men Movies, Superman 1 and 2, Kill Bill, Casablanca, North By Northwest, The Graduate, The Fifth Element, Blue Velvet, and Planet of the Apes.

Now that's a launch.

After every geek collects their jaws from the floor they would be ready to invest in the best HD-DVD player they could find. The entire launch catalog described above would break all home video sales records. These are the movies we are willing to buy over and over again. It wouldn't matter if half of the titles were rushed to production and didn't eek out the finest high definition quality because the movie studios could release an extra Features six months, we will re-HD - DVD saw that the best sound a little better than SD - DVD presentation is to buy the same name.

Open HD - DVD a lot of pressure. The rumor has been unable to throw open a bottle rocket attack.

I rent my house, I'm so hesitant, cut with a real component having home theater system in my room, I go with a stick HTIB. HITB on Blu-ray market is relatively low at the moment, so I shelled out more than I expected in this system. Fortunately, it was worth the money.

These small speakers "bar" (do not know what else could really be called) are incredible. They are smaller than I expected from photos and descriptions, but once set up and configured forRoom (furniture is a bit 'annoying, but the configuration in which all devices in the city is fast and easy) I was blown away. Just listen to all those who believe, the sound is funk, frail-looking wafer-speakers. The subcommittee, although passive, Pound low notes.

The system comes with wall brackets and are small and light enough that I installed the modem this weekend. It comes only with desktop stand - if you want the speakers on the mountainSoil, you must raise a series of charges to buy speakers again, the appropriate level. Given the low height and footprint of the stand-mounted speakers, I WAS the front speakers on the Same Level as the TV room and rear speakers on a table beside my bed.

I was more insecure wireless speakers, but the included S-Air system is working fine. S-AIR unit plugs into a socket and connects wirelessly to the versatile receiver, and backSpeakers plug into the S-Air units, instead of the laptop, so there's no worry about batteries. Surround sound through the unit was fine.

The only downside is that you place the speaker wires in the door speaker. Sony has a good idea, but simply not up to snuff. The wires end in beautiful large gold-plated items into the bottom of the speakers used, and should seek, but the small size of the housing andpoverty speaker wires directly to these ports (where you tend to "push") makes it a bit 'difficult to do correctly. I'm not sure that all cables are correct, or blocking is not up to par, how to "gently tug on the wires out without them - but everyone seemed They Come Easily with minimal effort. Once I tried it and thought that would be good enough, the rest of the installation was simple andSpeakers are working properly.

Also watch out for the tape on the front of the system that the drive door is closed. The mine was easy to forget, until I pressed the open button on the remote control and realized that something was wrong.

I always think that 2000 is still a bit 'on the expensive side, but I do not regret buying this system because I have too much rather than spent, and spent far less and be disappointed sastified.

Special NoteAppreciation to Sony for a fairly detailed manual and help explantions extra on-screen menu, installation / configuration. separately in a time when most companies give very little information printed from a single leaf, fold poorly documented, this has been a pleasure.

Pros:
Great search system
small, lightweight speaker bar
excellent sound
Easy setup configuration system
easily updated via a network connection management
abundantly in / out options (twoespecially in optical audio)
S-Unit features
System upgrade to 7.1

Cons:
wire connectors on the speaker bar
Price
No extensor floor stand included in the package

I was afraid of this system would not be worth as many movies are still 5.1, but not true HD audio using all 8 channels. Sometimes it is rather a chilling horror film when the two additional channels in line to take an unexpected noise. Much better than my old Bose 5.1 The picture is amazing w / regular and especially Blu-ray DVD.
