Second day after setup and I have been pleased with the Sony BDV-E770W. I am viewing on a Sony KDL-40EX700 HDTV. This is a good and inexpensive entry level HTiB which should be more than adequate for most folks. Later in my review, I will address some issues that others have posted in earlier reviews. Forgive the length, but I figured I would lay out everything for the next person who comes along and can benefit from my online homework.

As previously mentioned by Common Sense in his review, many issues can be resolved simply by viewing the online manuals while you are waiting for your unit to be shipped. Included in the box is the manual and a Quick Setup Guide, both of which are available online. The Quick Setup Guide does a good job of showing the different ways to hook up your video and audio.

Even without reviewing the online manuals ahead of time, your system will be up and running very quickly simply by using the Quick Setup Guide. Everything is color coded and easy to understand. The rear speakers are attached (by color coded speaker wires) to the wireless amplifier. I placed the wireless amp under my couch and ran the rear speaker wires to the left and right sides of my couch. I kept having a problem with my rear amp dropping the signal and the rear speakers would go mute. There are three different selections (frequencies) that are easily changed on the back of both the main amp and rear amp. Once I changed the frequency, I was in business. The Auto Speaker Calibration does a good job of calibrating everything. If you desire, one can calibrate each individual speaker, but I was happy with the auto calibration. While writing this review, I cranked Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight," and it sounded great. A previous poster had mentioned the small speakers, but I found this not to be a problem. Sound has been great. The Blu-Ray disks on the system are unbeatable and the DVD Up conversion was a very obvious improvement over my standard DVD player's output.

Two things I would like to address that others have had to deal with.

First, the Update that has "bricked" others' systems. As a previous person suggested, I used a LAN cable instead of the wireless adapter that comes with the system....and I sat on my hands and didn't touch a thing. My system turned itself off when it was finished....the whole thing took about seven minutes. If you can't use a LAN cable, then setup the included USB wireless internet device and test it by going into the system's online library and view some videos before accomplishing the update. If all is well, then initiate the update.

The second thing I would like to address is a previous poster's need for an optical cord for the Audio. What he was referring to is the Cable/SAT/DISH audio to your Blu-Ray system's speakers. Your Cable/SAT/DISH audio and video signals run to your HDTV. Your Blu-Ray video signal runs to your HDTV and the Blu-Ray audio signal goes to the speakers, but how do you get the Cable/SAT/DISH audio signal (the audio for the television shows) to your new speakers? The first two ways are in the Quick Setup guide... one being the optical audio cord and the other using RCA jacks directly from your Cable/SAT/DISH box to the back of the Blu-Ray. But there is a third way that is listed on page nineteen (19) of the owner's manual. There is something new called Audio Return Channel function which is an industry standard and NOT unique to Sony. If your HDTV supports this function, then you only need to use an HDMI cord between the Blu-Ray and HDTV and the audio signal coming from the Cable/SAT/DISH box will then run backwards through this HDMI cord into your Blu-Ray and it's speakers. This function is something that has been added to the HDMI technology as they continually update it. You only need to have an HDMI cord that is version 1.4 (the latest HDMI version). So my system only has two HDMI cords....one from the cable box to the HDTV and one from the Blu-Ray to the HDTV. The system does not include an HDMI cord nor an optical cord. Buy these (if you need both) before your unit arrives. At first, the Audio Return Channel function didn't work, but I found in the HDTV manual that this function only works from the HDMI input labeled Number One (I have four in all). Once I switched to HDMI port number one, I was in business.

The last thing I would like to address is a question I had asked Common Sense concerning using the 770W with something called Sony S-AIR wireless speakers. I found out the answer and here's the bottom line....This system is designed to work with these wireless speakers. They are truly wireless and can be plugged into sockets around your house to hear whatever is being heard from the system's speakers....music, the TV, or the movie playing in the Blu-Ray. The 770W is already transmitting to the wireless rear amp, therefore the other speakers would act as receivers as well, the difference being that these units are all-in-one receivers/speakers....no need to run wires to a seperate speaker. This solves my problem of piping music out to the garage or back porch while having a BBQ. Take a look at the link below for the S-AIR speakers available.

26 August 2010 S-AIR wireless speaker review

For some reason, Amazon will not let me post the URL for the Sony Style S-AIR speakers. I will try to post it again as well as a product link from Amazon. I just tested the socket speaker I received (used from eBay) and it works great. It worked on the back porch and the garage also. Good sound. Don't expect the volume to crank on the socket speaker, but it was just fine for the back porch for family BBQ, etc. If you want some volume, you might consider the "Premium" which is a bigger wireless speaker.

To delete any temporary files that are manually

Tuesday, September 28, 2010 § 0

The temporary storage of files and other programs are kept in the Windows Temporary folder. It is a collection of the temporary files of programs that you have previously installed (even includes those files that are no longer used in your program) temporary files from the web pages you had surfed before, and others. The stored files and programs sometimes create trouble in storing if you prolong the storage and never mind to perform the maintenance. These files are sometimes a threat to the privacy of the user by the other users of the computer.

The temp files can either be deleted manually or using reliable special software. Some may either be deleted or cleared while some others take several tries to be completely clean. Most common reasons for these non-terminations of the files are due to irregularities in the shutdown procedure in your computer, troubles in the restart execution, and virus related problems. However, the market today provides much special software duly recommended countering the said. An example to this is the Winclear, developed to completely delete the existing files, programs, applications and activities that automatically save into your computer.

To manually operate the erasure of the Windows temporary Files Folder, a simple procedure must be followed below.

For Windows XP/2000/ME/NT/98/95, seven (7) steps must be done.

- First, click the 'Start' menu.
- Look for the 'Search' on the list and click it.
- Hit the 'For Files and folders' on the panel provided in the Search option.
- Choose the 'All files and folders', after.
- Write on the file search '*.tmp' to reveal the 'tmp' file extension.
- Then, press 'Search Now'.
- Results will then be viewed in the right panel allowing you to choose what delete in the tmp files.
- After deciding what to clear, press 'Delete' in your keyboard.

Always remember that all temporary files begin in '.tmp' extension, but may begin in (~). Although, it must also be bear in mind that some may also begin with other extensions. The problem arises here. When you are not able to identify the temp file in manually clearing the files, you will definitely not be able remove it from your computer. Thus, it is advice to delete the temp files by directly entering in the temporary files directory, which is a tough job to do, or using any reliable and highly recognized special software available in the market.

I was afraid this system wouldn't be worth it since most movies are still in 5.1 however, the true HD audio does use all 8 channels. Sometimes it is rather chilling on a scary movie when the extra two channels in the rear pick up an unexpected sound. A lot nicer than my old bose 5.1 The picture is also incredible w/ regular and especially blu-ray dvd's.

The only difference from the line in jack is the few remote buttons and it charges while the system is on. Panasonic does a much better job with this. Maybe a firmware upgrade will change this. Also if your system is stuck in muting when you plug ipod in, a reboot fixes it. I found this online.

Finally, with Internet connectivity you would think they could integrate Netflix and Pandora. But not yet. I am hoping a firmware upgrade will add them.

All in all, as a Blu Ray home theater in a box it is superb. I set it up with HDMI and Optical connections all around and it paid off. But I would have given it a 4.5 or 5 if the front speakers hadn't been so weak out of the box. But not a deal breaker as cheap bigger speakers really added the oomph it was missing.

I would strongly recommend this Home Theater System, especially if you have a Samsung TV, as the two units "talk" to each other and you can control your HDTV with the Blu-Ray Remote Control.

The best thing besides the sound quality is the fact that you can buy an adapter and stream [...] music at 192 Kbps, and also Netflix or Blockbuster movies. I might subscribe to Netflix in a few months and cancel my Starz subscription, because NetFlix includes it. I love the sounds quality with Pandora and listen to it exclusively.

It only has one HDMI output and one Optical Digital sound input, but that is enough for most people. The back speakers are only wireless if you buy an adapter .. not worth it for me. The Samsung LAN adapter for Netflix and Pandora costs between -75 depending where you buy it or if it is refurbished.

Before I purchased this system I read mixed reviews all across, Hence was very doubtful before I went for it.
The options for me also were very limited as I was looking for a HT system with
1. Component out(as my TV is very old first generation Plasma and did not have HDMI),
2. Blu ray player with Web connectivity and USB.
3. Wireless rear speakers.(Please make note that when they say wireless it means there are no wires running from the receiver to the rear speakers, however the Rear speakers are connected through wire to a wireless Adapter.)
I would recommend this system for small living room kind of setup. I have owned this system for a month now, so far I am loving it.
Pros:
1.Setup was very easy.
2.Sound quality very good.
3.Lot of good features.
4.Wireless rear speakers work very very well(contrary to many reviews I Read). I moved them across to another room (40 ft away from the receiver, with wall in between) and still they play well (Actually I did not notice any difference).
5.Wireless internet connectivity and streaming over the internet is excellent.(Contrary to some reviews where ppl said it was breaking up). I think the speed of your internet and kind of wireless modem you use also matters.
6.Looks pretty neat too with the glossy black finish.

Cons:
1. Speaker specific controls not available in case you want to customize, however there are different modes and effects provided.
2. When changing from DVD input to Dish Input sometimes the remote does not work after the switch. Had to manually do it at the receiver(would work if you re-start the receiver)
3. Has just one USB out which is used for wireless, I had to buy a USB extender where I can connect multiple USB devices to the Unit. With this setup sometimes my External USB hard disk has to be power cycled to be recognised.
4. Due to the Black Glossy color Dust shows easily, needs regular Dust:).

I was afraid that this system would not be worth it, because most movies still in 5.1, however, use true 8-channel HD audio all. Sometimes it's cold on a horror movie when the two additional channels in the back to pick up an unexpected sound. Much better than my old Bose 5.1 It is also incredibly w / regular and especially Blu-ray DVD.

#1: Great Price Sony DAV-IS50/B 5.1-Channel Micro Satellite Home Theater System (Black) Lowest prices today - Find the best prices

I was going to wait a bit longer but since there's only one more review so far, here is my first quick and dirty shot at Sony DAV-IS50/B system (look for updates as time passes by):

Considering my enthusiasm for HD video and surround sound and lack thereof for extra low and loud thumps, I decided to replace my Logitech THX Z-2300 2.1 speakers and go for a 5.1 surround sound home theater system that can fit my small condominium and similar budget. With prices of soundbars recently going down significantly I was considering them for quite a while, but decided to go for more surround. However, all the HTIB systems seemed too bulky for me until Sony came up with these and until the price dropped to a far more affordable 0 range. It is worth noting that the size of the subwoofer unit is approximately of a PC minitower, but the remaining components are very small and handy.

Pros:
- Very sophisticated looks (I love this, especially when you fire it up and let your friends feel the power behind the ridiculously small and seemingly toyish speakers)
- Wireless connection for back surround speakers can be bought if you don't want to run wires from front to back (still need wires to the wireless amp unit though)
- Additional DVD player if you want to save your PS3 or expensive Blu-ray system from being used for kiddie DVDs
- FM and AM radio receiver
- TDM-IP50 iPod port was included and works flawlessly with iPhone 3G without the annoying airplane mode message. Besides audio, I was also able to view video on TV after pressing the "OPR MODE" button on the port which hands over full control of your iPod or iPhone to the system and remote. However, on a big screen TV, youtube videos and podcasts look bad at a low resolution. I like the way you can use the very same IR remote to control iPhone iPod application and browse through songs, artists and videos. (Warning, some pictures of DAV-IS50 are showing it with the older TDM-IP1 port, so I'm not entirely sure you're getting this TDM-IP50 port, which by the way has shorter cable than TDM-IP1)
- Due to their small size, the speakers can be very easily mounted onto a wall with provided mounts (wall screws not included, but regular drywall screws from local hardware store did well in my case).
- Very good sound considering their size
- Great fit for small apartments and condominiums
- Seemingly proprietary speaker wire connections to the amp (subwoofer) unit can be released and same can be achieved on the speakers' side: after releasing the back screw and moving a lever switch that holds them in place, wires at speaker come loose and can be released and replaced or reconnected.

Cons:
- No HDMI in port (the only HDMI port is HDMI out, used to connect the DVD box to a TV)
- Only one port of each type (one optical so if you have more systems with optical audio out, you need a switch box. In this case I'm lacking second optical audio in so I could besides my PS3 connect my TV for over the air tuner)
- Programming preset radio stations is cumbersome and far from intuitive (I had to read the manual to do this, which I never do)
- No HD radio
- At 9 the price is too high for a product that's just been discontinued by Sony (I bought mine for 9 at local brick and mortar store when it was on sale). However, Sony often does this with successful products and it will provide you with good sound, but do yourself a favor and buy it on sale for 9 or at least not over 0)
- Works great for movies, but with music you can tell where the lows are coming from, because of higher cutoff point, so more mid-low-range sounds ends up in the subwoofer (sounds coming from the ideal subwoofer cannot be located because the cutoff is at frequency so low that humans can't locate the source).

I was skeptical about the sound that can come out of these little "miserable" pieces of nothing, however, they managed to gain my respect when I put my iPhone in the store model and played 320 kbps MP3 file and got the huge store filled with music. After marrying a woman who, although virtually half my size and weight, rules my world, I'm not surprised that these speakers at their size can be this loud and impressive. They cannot be used as a main system for a block party, but if you're into small and sophisticated like I am, you will love these. Bose does similar things, but at a price far more than twice higher and that's why most audiophiles can't stand them. Sony, however, (again) got my respect. Of course middle and low levels can never be superior to those of fully sized speakers, but they are there and if you close your eyes and forget about their size, you might be surprised with the effect. Highs and high mids are quite impressive and so are upper and mid lows. Unlike most THX movie audiophiles who prefer the always and every-reputable-home-theater-present unnatural abundance of artificially amplified extra low frequencies, I don't have a thing for the extra loud thumps, so I'm very happy with this system and I mostly keep it on "Night" settings which additionally lowers the mixing-enhanced bump and thump. On my PS3, driving cars and crashing in Burnout Paradise gives a full 3D experience and impressive sound effects and I don't dare to play with volume set louder than one half (maybe will someday if I want to test whether the neighbors can be provoked into calling the condominium association board president to throw us out).

Audiophiles won't buy these and neither will I once I move to a house, but they are great for the rest of us when in or around the 0 price range and I'm not one bit sorry I bought them for this condominium (soon to be sold with them). However, I think I'll replace them with HT-IS100 I just ordered (found them on sale at same price 9) because of the lack of HDMI inputs. For the average user who doesn't have too many inputs and just wants to watch a DVD once in a while, these would suffice and actually could be more desirable because they also provide the extra DVD player at approximately the same price... I already have a PS3 and I like my home theater to have more available HDMI inputs.

Bottom line: At 9 these were a steal. If you can get them under 0 with shipping and tax, go for it.

(to be continued when I Half-time found - IS100 to the ...).

Thursday, September 9, 2010 § 0

The Sony BDV-E770W is the company's flagship Blu-ray home theater for 2010 and it's outfitted with just about every feature you could think of. It can stream media for a ton of online sources (including Netflix, Amazon VOD, Pandora, and Slacker) and it comes with a USB Wi-Fi dongle so you don't need Ethernet in the living room. A wireless rear-speaker package is also included, which is a welcome plus now that many manufacturers don't include this even on high-end systems. You can connect an E770W directly to the USB port of the iPod and BDV, OSD refers to using music. Built-in Blu - ray player is a 3D compatible. This allows all surprisingly, E770W BDV is missing features that are available Samsung HT system of competing - C6500, but the system cheaper LHB535, LG is: HDMI input. Because BDV E770W, this is unfortunately, the disk read speed, excellent quality, includes the rest of its features and stylish designHTIB speed (). If you can avoid the lack of an HDMI input, this theater is very impressive at home BDV E770W Blu - ray also Suremasu in the system 600. However, please check the buyer said Samsung's HT - C6500 is providing sound a little better competition, one 2 HDMI inputs and low price tag.

I have been using this system for about a year now and have been very pleased. Every once in awhile I still find myself looking in the direction of the speakers thinking a sound was coming from the living and not the speakers.

Having AT&T U-Verse I was concerned that the wireless speakers would interfere with the U-Verse system but this was not the case. Worked perfectly on the default setting. It is very easy to setup for your cable system as well. This system does include a FM antenna wire that works great for me even stuffed behind the receiver. The system does include a microphone that helps automatically calibrate your system based on the size of the room and the seating position. When I moved from an apartment into a new home I forgot to re-calibrate for several months, but once I did there was a clear sound improvement.

Shopped around a lot before purchasing this and couldn't find another system comparable in price or quality with wireless rear It is recommended that I buy Knight (+ BD is - the site), Ray [Blu-ray to the first - the speaker, you own the first DVD], it (like me), the difference is amazing, the film seems to be different.

4. Due to the Black Glossy color Dust shows easily, needs regular Powder:).

Summary: A quality, full-featured Home Theater in a Box (HTIB) well worth its current retail price, especially if used with the optional Panasonic DY-WL10 wireless LAN adapter (or hard wired).

Caveats: This HTIB is connected to a 720P 42" Panasonic TV purchased in late 2007. I have never previously owned a HTIB, so I have nothing to compare it to apart from stereo systems. Used in a medium-sized living room.
I possess average-to-high tech savviness. Several reviewers have had much grief with the wireless rear speakers. Mine worked out of the box, but only after I remembered to insert the digital transmitter into the main unit. I have been drinking throughout this review.

Setup: Assembly and setup were reasonably simple. Connections were very clearly marked. I may or may not have successfully used the auto speaker setup microphone due to my own stupidity.
The sound levels of each speaker are easy to adjust manually, however. Unlike other reviewers, I was able to play normal TV broadcasts through the system speakers by connecting the optical audio out on my cable box to the digital optical audio in ("D-IN 1") with a Toslink cable (more below!).

Sound: I'm no audiophile, but the system sounds great to my ear whether playing music from an iPod/Pandora, movies on DVD/BD's, or even Youtube. Full spectrum with excellent bass. The subwoofer really makes the room shake. It needs to be set pretty low most of the time.
The tiny rear speakers produce excellent ambient sounds during movies and hold their own if I use with other sources.

Picture: Bluray discs look very good, as expected, excellent in fact. Upscaled DVD's also look very good.

Vieracast: You are doing yourself a serious disservice if you purchase this and don't take advantage of the internet features available with this unit.
You'll need to purchase a Panasonic DY-WL10 dongle (about today, weeks ago when I purchased) or a wired LAN connection, but there's a ton of content out there that make it worthwhile.
In short, Vieracast is Panasonic's proprietary internet streaming service. It currently offers Netflix, Youtube, Pandora (a music service), and a few lesser lights like Bloomberg news, Picasa, and a German news channel, Tageschau (wuh?). Fox Sports and Twitter are still "Coming Soon!"
The Vieracast interface is a little clumsy in appearance and makes annoying chiming sounds as you click between content.

It sometimes takes more than than one attempt to get started (could also be the fault of the dongle or my router or some other piece of hardware), but it's dropped a connection exactly-only-once.

Regardless, a Netflix account alone makes Vieracast (no fee) worthwhile in view of the numerous and varied "Watch Instantly" offerings. Examples: My father came to the TV show "Lost" a few seasons late, so he recently bought the first few seasons on DVD to catch up.
Well, all but last season are currently available instantly on netflix.
More and more recent offerings are available, lots of kids' stuff and documentaries, older classics . . . On a whim I googled a list of "the best movies of all time" and found that most of the top 15 were available for instant viewing ("Battleship Potemkim" - er, great!)

There are some negatives with Netflix. Unlike a DVD/BD, the streaming audio doesn't appear to automatically separate to 5.1, but you can easily use the "surround" and "sound" buttons on the remote to choose the combination of speakers. Still blows your TV speakers away.

I found the video quality of streaming video on a 42" plasma to be very good (and it transmits 16:9), but it's not Bluray or even HD. But I'm also old enough to remember when TV nirvana was watching S-VHS on a 36" tube set. If you're rockin' a 60" set, sit three feet from the screen, and can't remember the 80's, your mileage may vary.

Youtube is rife with possibilities that I haven't fully exploited, mostly because I haven't had the patience to figure out my account settings for playlists and favorites on Youtube itself. A 12 year old should be able to do things stranger than i can imagine.
You enter your Youtube account name/password and your lists, etc. should appear. One cool thing I managed to do was create extensive playlists (e.g. old live Dead, Zeppelin, etc.) and put them on continuous play. This is very awesome. Video quality is obviously limited by the source (whateva), the sound too, but I'm listening to it right now and it's pretty good.

Pandora radio is a great internet music service that I have on iPhone. Enter the name of an artist or genre and it will continuously play music from that artist/genre. It's like an artist/genre specific radio station.
If you have a (free) account as I did, just enter username/password. Sound quality is excellent.

iPod dock: Excellent feature built into the main unit. The interface can be a little clumsy, however, lots of scrolling with the remote if you're looking for That Particular Song. If you have playlists like the rest of the sane, no worries.

TV Broadcasts: As noted above, and in contrast to other reviewers, cable/satellite broadcasts can be played through the unit's speakers with a Toslink cable (which costs less than a Big Mac).
I have a cablebox (HD with modern connections) and it took a little experimentation to get it to work. The unit's instructions read like, well, stereo instructions, and were not particularly helpful. Each must find his own path, but I was easily able to play normal TV broadcasts through the system speakers by connecting the optical audio out on my cable box to the digital optical audio in ("D-IN 1") with the Toslink cable.

FM radio: Does anyone really care? Well, if you're so inclined, it receives FM transmissions pretty well, much better than my last (1998-ish) receiver, and has auto pre-sets available (just like a rental car!) Worked well. Also plays SD cards, another useless thing that these things all do. Useless unless you want to subject someone to a slide show, which was a peculiar form of torture back in the day.

Conclusion: This device sounds great and has opened up a whole new world of content on the TV. The four stars is for interface clumsiness, and the remote, which I don't feel Likes to eat, but I'm not currently in the price of this unit is not like a mistake.
